The Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Administrative / Office support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through a grant administered program through National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. You'll be working side-by-side with EPA staff that are doing important work every day. Pay rate: $19.21/hr. Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium, Paid Vacation, Paid Sick Time, 11 Paid Federal Holidays, 1 Individual Holiday, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available. This position requires a background check prior to receiving clearance to start work. Please note that due to EPA Policy, this opportunity only applies to United States Citizens. Applicants must be age 55 or older to be considered for this position.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in analytical chemistry & tech data review OR BA/BS Degree in Chemistry/Biology OR Previously completed training in Audits

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, Adobe, Copying Machine, Scanner
  • Promium Element, instrument software
Duties:

Perform Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) certifications/inspections of Region 3 (R3) State Laboratories and approval of R3 State Laboratory Certification program and related activities. Perform duties in support of the EPA laboratory drinking water quality system and related activities

  • State Laboratory Assessments - Perform lab assessments for chemistry, microbiology, and radiochemistry. Maintain reports and correspondences, interim certifications and corrective actions. State Laboratory Safe Drinking Wat3er Act (SDWA) Certification Program on -site reviews   40%
  • Track state program yearly questionnaires, state proficiency testing (PT) records, and issue annual lab certificates.   30%
  • Attend and organize SDWA and National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) periodic meetings.   10%
  • Perform NELAP Evaluation of State NELAP Accreditation Programs.   10%
  • Perform duties in support of the EPA laboratory drinking water quality system and related activities   10%

Other:
  • SEE enrollee may required to meet certification standards prior to participating in field work. Mandatory online EPA training in IT, Records and Information Security trainings thru FED TALENT
  • Online training thru FED TALENT and on the job training
  • Travel Requirements: up to four nights a week @ historically 2 weeks per year could be up to 6 weeks/year
  • Overnight travel: up to four nights a week @ historically 2 weeks per year could be up to 6 weeks/year
  • Air travel anticipated: 2 days per year
  • Health Safety Training: web-based laboratory inspection safety training provided by EPA at Environmental Science Center (ESC).

  • Required Safety Gear: All lab work must be conducted using level D Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Safety Gear Use: Conduct field audits
