? This position supports the U.S. Park Police of the National Park Service. ? The NPS Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? NPS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 56 weeks. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPS direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. NPS ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 year(s) of experience in communications related occupation to include the full amount or blend of experience. Blended experience may be described as a police officer or firefighter/medic who has worked in a communications center or has used a CAD system to enter calls or Mobile Data terminals to retrieve information. OR AA/HS Degree in Fire Fighter/Law Enforcement or Emergency Management OR Previously completed training in recognized training program from a Public Safety Organization or training from a recognized outside source. Examples of training: APCO, NENA, Public Safety Group, American Academy.

  • Computer Aided Dispatch, use of Multiple channel radio system, Use of a multiple telephone line system, alarm system monitoring.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • Computer Aided Dispatch/Motorola Radio Equipment.
Duties:

Support the public and law enforcement by operating as a dispatcher using multi-channel radio communications systems, a CAD system, dispatching resources, and provide assistance through call-taking.

  • You will be required to complete APCO training in 911 telephones/Police Dispatching and Emergency Medical Directions and dispatching. Complete NCIC/E-Agent training, and several FEMA related online courses.

  • Required Certifications: Upon being hired, the completion of mandatory public safety dispatcher courses are required.
  • Physical requirements: Work is done at a work console requiring good eyesight to track information on (6) computer screens. Voice must be clear, audible, and tone effective with words plainly spoken and understandable. Employee must be able to hear clearly and discern a variety of audible communications and signals simultaneously. Good listening and comprehension is essential. Employees must possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer terminals/keyboards and related equipment and to maintain written logs.
