Senior Director, Marketing & Communications Center

Position Summary:
As a Conference Board, marketing and communications thought leader and spokesperson, the Senior Director develops and creates experiences that deliver Insights for What's Ahead™ in written, audio, video in-person, one-on-one and one-to-many forms for our members and the public to help the world's leading companies navigate challenges, seize opportunities and better serve society. This is done in partnership with other M&C Center experts and in collaboration with other TCB Centers and business units. The Senior Director also 'pinch hits' for the Center Leader (CL) in management meetings, tasks and routines as well as in member meetings, briefings and sales engagements.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Serving as TCB spokesperson (for media, conferences, sales calls, events etc.) for specified fields/topic areas and related offerings of the Marketing and Communications Center (dependent on particular competencies).
  • Schedules, structures, formats, prepares and (co)hosts roundtables, webcasts and other meetings (i.e. Conference Sessions) with members and the public.
  • Serves as an expert advisor on specified fields/topic areas (based on expertise and member needs) and works with high-level experts to increase TCB's impact through expanded projects, services, offerings, and executive involvement.
  • Working with Member Development and other departments to identify ways to attract new members to the M&C Center, as well as sponsors for the Center's publications and programming.
  • Recruiting, managing, nurturing, mentoring and directing talent as required.
  • Leading the coordination with other Center Leaders and Deputies/Principals to integrate insights across other Centers.
  • Overseeing the development of sales materials, updated briefings and program calendars for the Sales Enablement Team.
  • Contributing to the overall performance of the Center through engaging members, identifying critical issues, shaping research and content, contributing to shared content development, developing innovative products and shaping the long-term strategy and operational plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A former officer, reporting directly to the CEO, in Marketing, Communications, Growth, Brand, Internal Communications, Digital or Insights.
  • Deep understanding of consumer/customer/market trends and priorities. The ideal candidate will have had substantial record as a thought leader in the marketing or communications realm, and interest in broader business, economic, geopolitical and societal issues.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a track record of published articles/research with a focus on marketing and/or communications, and the broader issues of topical interest to the Chief Marketing, Chief Communications and Chief Executive Officers (e.g. AI and generative AI, the ROI of branding, crisis communications frameworks etc.) in reputable journals and business press.
  • Superior oral communication skills: substantive experience presenting research findings to business and public audiences is required.
  • Superior aural communication skills: experience in listening to member feedback, distilling common themes and turning into actions.
  • Experience with various research techniques and practice (e.g., survey design and analysis and focus group facilitation) required.
  • Strong command of the business landscape, superior business, and marketing acumen.
  • Ability to collaborate and build trust with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to engage with and advise C-Suite members peer to peer.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to create high quality work efficiently while managing multiple projects autonomously.MA in Marketing, Communications or Consumer Analytics with a related qualification in business (e.g., MBA).
  • 10-15 years of directly related work experience (e.g. writer, producer, business researcher, Agency) and/or indirectly related experience (e.g. senior role in a corporation or organization in corporate communications, IR, Govt. Relations, marketing, brand leadership, innovation, sales, digital/data/analytics for consumer insights etc.)
