This position supports the Bureau of Land Management Carlsbad & Roswell Field Offices. ? The BLM Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the BLM to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? BLM ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 2,009 hours. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the BLM or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under BLM direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. BLM ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Wildlife Biology OR BA/BS Degree in Biology

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Excel, MS Word, MS SharePoint, ARCVIEW (GIS), MS Teams
Duties:

As a Wildlife Biologist in the District/Field office the employee manages and performs professional research or scientific work that involves conserving, protecting, and administering wildlife species and habitat. The specialist provides assistance to the District/Field office biology program for the management of the surrounding ecology, behavior and conservation of habitat of wild animals as well as coordinating wildlife management programs with other natural resources activities, such as land use planning, forest and range management programs.

  • Provides advice/guidance on issues of current research in the field and its application to Bureau habitat management, automation of wildlife management programs, and policy determination and interpretation.   20%
  • Coordinates with local government agencies, other State agencies, Federal agencies, Tribal councils, other BLM offices, interest groups, and the Washington Office program lead contacts in regard to conserving/developing/managing public rangelands.   20%
  • Assists in negotiating cooperative agreements and memorandums of understanding with special interest groups and other organizations in the State.   20%
  • Participates in interdisciplinary teams able to utilize an interdisciplinary approach to assess environmental impacts/multiple use conflicts for integrated resource planning.   20%
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance to the Districts and Field offices on planning documents, use authorizations, feasibility studies, and other activities within the wildlife biology program.   20%
