Director of Accounting 

 

Job Summary:  This is a full-time position working under the direction of the Executive Director. The Accounting Director will oversee the financial operations and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, a solid accounting background, and experience managing an accounting team. The Accounting Director will be responsible for implementing and maintaining financial controls, preparing financial statements, and providing insights to support decision-making processes.

Exempt Position.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management:
    1. Oversee all aspects of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
    2. Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
    3. Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    1. Lead the annual budgeting process and collaborate with department heads to develop accurate and realistic budgets.
    2. Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analyses and forecasts.
  3. Audit and Compliance:
    1. Coordinate and manage external audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    2. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including GAAP and IFRS.
  4. Team Leadership:
    1. Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
    2. Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  5. Financial Analysis and Reporting:
    1. Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
    2. Prepare and present financial reports to senior management and the board of directors.
  6. Systems and Process Improvement:
    1. Evaluate and improve accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    2. Implement best practices in accounting and financial management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  2. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role. 
  3. Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and financial reporting standards.
  4. Experience with financial software (QuickBooks) and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  5. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
