The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Experienced Services Program (ESP) was established to create a unique partnership to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The USGS ESP connects experienced workers (age 55+) to provide scientific, technical, and administrative services in support of the USGS mission. The experienced workers participating in the ESP are referred to as Enrollees and are not employees of USGS or National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the ESP, and the enrollees work under USGS direction based on the functions in this job description. USGS ESP enrollees benefit from the opportunity to mentor and to engage in gainful project-based work, and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy and their own financial security. A background security investigation may be required prior to start date. Location, hours and hourly pay are noted in this position description. USGS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary support with this position being funded for approximately 1242 hours at 27 hours per week. Qualifications:

in hospitality or visitor service industries or event and program coordination OR HS/GED Degree

  • Valid Driver's License preferred
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS SharePoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook, Adobe
Duties:

The John Wesley Powell Center for Analysis and Synthesis has a need for an enrollee to provide assistance with meeting logistics related to hosting scientific working groups. This support includes a wide range of activities related to meeting setup such as audio-visual setups scheduling and coordinating field trips snacks and restaurant as well as pre-and post meetings communications.

  • On-site customer service support assisting with AV connection, refreshments, local knowledge   40%
  • Correspondence: distribute meeting materials, coordinate travel preferences   40%
  • Light data entry and reporting using local systems   20%

Other:
  • Annual Information Management and Technology Awareness training for accessing federal computer systems.
  • Training on the operations of the Powell Center, and possibly the USGS travel systems and databases
  • Travel Requirements: local travel may be necessary for refreshment procurement (less than 5 miles)
  • Health and Safety Considerations: The person will be setting our foods for others to consume and washing dishes: health considerations related to cleaning and disinfecting are ncessary
  • Physical requirements: Work is primarily completed indoors, occasional moving of conference room chairs, laptops and audio-visual equipment.
