SHOP MANAGER - BILINGUAL

POSITION INFORMATION

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, the Shop Manager oversees maintenance, repairs, preventive maintenance, compliance, and cost containment of all parts and repairs.  Responsible for coordinating the daily maintenance and repair operations by scheduling and supervising shop employees and ordering the organizational parts, supplies, records, and files to provide safe, efficient, and quality customer service. This position will interact with shop personnel, drivers, operations, and vendors.

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for scheduling Inventory Control Coordinator, Foreman, and shop personnel to support workload
  • Responsible for ensuring all standard operating procedures are followed, auditing daily/weekly/monthly for compliance
  • Responsible for identifying and documenting damages caused by Mexican carriers
  • Responsible for overall C-TPAT compliance, including inspections of equipment, property, fence lines, auditing performance for thorough inspection of unauthorized contraband or products
  • Provides Shop Foreman with support in scheduling work assignments and monitoring employee performance and productivity
  • Responsible for ensuring ATS service requirements and expectations are met, following standard operating procedures
  • Responsible for ensuring technicians operate within DOT and OSHA guidelines
  • Monitoring parts inventory, ensuring accuracy, availability of parts, and accountability
  • Oversees and supports the Shop Foreman in the development, coaching, and counseling of new and experienced technicians on work performance, attendance, and adherence to company policies and standard operating procedures
  • Communicate with internal/external customers and shop personnel
  • Shop point of contact for all contractors
  • Proficient utilization of LME system to monitor technician time, job tasks, work orders, monitor parts inventory and shop productivity, ensuring all operating procedures are followed
  • Time will be spent on the shop floor as well as administrative time
  • Identify areas of opportunity to improve efficiency and/or reduce operating cost
  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are trained on current operating procedures, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner
  • Responsible for verifying all repairs completed by both Warren Transport technicians and external service providers meet DOT and company requirements.
  • Audit work orders to ensure all parts required for the repair have been added to the work orders for correct billing
  • Communicate with drivers and/or operations staff regarding the status of vehicle/equipment maintenance and repair jobs
  •  Provide coverage for the absence of the Foreman and Inventory Control Coordinator.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Laredo terminal property
  • Performs other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Written and verbal fluency in both English and Spanish
  • 1-3 years related experience and/or training in the transportation industry
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations and out-of-service parameters for tractors, trailers, and accessorial equipment
  • Ability to read and understand work orders
  • Working knowledge of trailer maintenance and diagnostic software
  • A valid driver's license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening).
  • Strong computer skills (word, Excel, Outlook).


WORKING CONDITIONS

The Shop Manager will spend a lot of time behind a desk working on a computer and paperwork.  There will also be many times they will need to walk around the shop both inside and outside the area.  They may encounter dirty conditions when working with the service department and detail personnel.  They may be required to do some minor lifting.  While outside, they may be exposed to inclement weather conditions.
