Event Mechanic

At American Airlines Center, we value our employees and what they bring to the company, but more importantly to the guest experience. We are seeking a full-time Event Mechanic to join our operations team. The Event Mechanic operates, inspects, tests, repairs, maintains and balances all facility equipment including retractable and static seating, food service equipment, public assembly equipment, plumbing and mechanical systems to ensure proper operation and compliance with all applicable regulations and the required event schedule.

Essential Functions: include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs and documents preventive maintenance on all facility equipment to ensure continued proper working condition;
  • Completes preventative, reactive and predictive maintenance schedules and maintains records of work performed in order to minimize down time and reduce operational expenses.
  • Assists with work performed by outside contractors, inspects and verifies the work upon completion.
  • Assists other trade personnel in making various repairs in the arena;
  • Performs operation of machinery during event set-up functions as required;
  • Performs emergency repairs to stationary and portable facility equipment during event operations to ensure the success of the event.
  • Inspects system according to facility and manufactures recommendations to verify system compliance with plans and specifications and to detect malfunctions in system component parts;
  • Utilizes Computer based Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for tracking and scheduling equipment and facility maintenances and repairs.
  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting of facility equipment, hydraulic and water based operating systems and motorized vehicles and apparatus.
  • Performs daily and scheduled maintenance to system components, including belts, filters, strainers, cleaning, hydraulic cylinders, and hydraulic pumps, electrical and mechanical control equipment. 
  • Studies system blueprints, specifications and performance data to determine proper configuration and purpose of all facility components such as scrubbers, seating sections, hydraulic and electric pumps, fans, switches, digital and pneumatic controllers, vehicles, stationery equipment, or shop based repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The employee should also have the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • 5 years plus experience in maintenance repair and operation of heavy equipment, facility equipment and machinery and typical public assembly of facility equipment.
  • Extensive hands on operation of equipment and small tools repair in a multi-facility campus or multi story complex.
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of plumbing systems and components required.
  • Good communication skills in order to interact with general public
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but is not required
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment and electrical repaid
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices for facility systems

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Employees must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and all shifts as required.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms use hands to handle, or feel, stand, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, walk and sit;
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while twisting and/or turning working at heights and frequent climbing of stairs and ladders;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work at heights above 50 feet and in confined spaces.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, during events, the noise level may be loud; 
  • Position is required to work in exposed wet and/or humid conditions;
  • Position is required to work near moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock;
