This position supports the Bureau of Land Management National Operations Center. The position can be fully remote or hybrid remote. ? The BLM Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the BLM to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? BLM ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 1,390 hours. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the BLM or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under BLM direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. BLM ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

BA/BS Degree in Fire Protection/Safety Engineer or related.

  • NFPA Certification (CFPS Preferred, but not required)
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Excel, MS Word, MS SharePoint, MS Teams, MS PowerPoint
  • Bluebeam, Revit/CAD
Duties:

The purpose of this position is to serve as the expert providing ad-hoc Fire Protection Engineering services across the BLM in compliance with laws, regulations, policy, and guidance. The enrollee will: 1. Review and provide comprehensive technical comments and recommend approvals of designs, construction drawings and specifications, cost estimates and/or performance requirements for fire protection and fire suppression systems. 2. Perform inspections and testing of fire protection systems (fire detection and fire suppression apparatus. appliances, and related devices). Provides findings and recommendations in a written report. 3. Develops technically accurate designs, scopes of work and independent government estimates for fire protection. 4. Furnishes technical advice and guidance to others. 5. Participate in meetings.

Other:
  • Rental cars: On average, anticipate 2-3 days of travel every 2 months.
  • Required Safety Gear: Jobsite specific PPE, such as a hard hat, safety glasses, etc may be required.

  • Physical requirements: Although the majority of the work is sedentary walking, crouching, climbing, carrying gear/equipment, working on ladders and scaffolding, etc will be required.
