Natural Resource Conservation Services (NRCS):

NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS). These are experienced professionals who provide technical and professional assistance to the Department of Agriculture for the Agriculture Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in Natural Resources Conservation related area. OR BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, Natural Resources, Agronomy or related field of study.

  • Valid State Driver? license.
  • Skilled in Design of Conservation Practices; surveying, soils interpretation, and practice installations.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • PowerPoint.
  • Other Software: IBM-compatible, fax, copy machine, typewriter.
Duties:

Assists the District Conservationists in the Greenbrier Valley Conservation District and nearby offices (on an ad hoc basis) with technical functions of conservation planning, organizing, and implementing of natural resources conservation program in West Virginia.

  • Provide assistance and training in the installation of a variety of conservation practices that may include parallel terraces, ponds, waterways, irrigation systems, agricultural waste management systems, and pasture planting.   50%
  • Designs and supervises the design of complete engineering practices and structures.   40%
  • Develop standard drawings on the CAD system.   10%

  • Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasionally to satisfy the duties of the position. Government vehicle provided when working in remote farms or communities.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Defensive Driving and First Aid ? CPR (AgLearn) courses will be provided prior to traveling in a government vehicle to remote areas.
  • Required Safety Gear: Work may occasionally require coveralls, gloves, hard hat, steel toed shoes, and safety goggles/glasses. Safety equipment may be needed when working in or near construction or water environments.
