The Fish and Wildlife Service Experienced Services Program was established to create a unique partnership to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The Fish and Wildlife ESP connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the Fish and Wildlife Service to provide scientific, technical, and administrative services in support of the Fish and Wildlife Service priority multiple-use related programs and authorities. The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as Enrollee and are not employees of FWS or National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). NEW Solutions is the ESP Non-governmental organization (NGO) responsible for administrative aspects of the Program, and the Enrollees work under Fish and Wildlife Service direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out the Fish and Wildlife Service mission. Fish and Wildlife Service ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current, to access new training opportunities, to engage in gainful project-based positions, and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy and their own financial security. Background security investigation may be required prior to start date. Location, hours and hourly pay are noted in this position description. FWS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for approximately 1800 hours at 29 hours per week. (this is subject to change based on budget and other factors).

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 year(s) of experience in Visitor Services, Sales, emergency response, law enforcement OR AA Degree in Visitor Services, Sales, Biology, emergency response, law enforcement

  • Drivers license required
  • Experience required with Windows, MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to operate a cash register
Duties:

The incumbent would provide general Park Ranger technician services including fee collection, supporting environmental education events and efforts, supporting community outreach events and efforts. In addition, the duties will include, but are not limited to, the following: ? Collect fees from refuge visitors and self-pay station(s) ? Answer visitor questions ? Maintain accurate records of passes and tickets sold to visitors ? Provide information to park visitors ? Explain rules and regulations regarding use of public areas ? Operate and maintain fee booths and fee collection equipment ? Assist with preparing reports and accountability forms ? Perform gate management ? Control ticket funds ? Perform park or visitor site maintenance ? Communicating information to varied audiences ? Assisting with volunteer program management ? Regularly inventory and report on consumable supplies (publications, fee envelopes, etc.)

  • Operating a fee booth and collecting fees including handling inventory, controlling ticket funds, maintaining accurate records of passes and tickets sold, answering visitor questions, maintaining a clean work area including grounds trash and debris pick-up of fee recreational area and associated grounds.   50%
  • Monitoring refuge emails, supporting updates to Refuge specific webpages and Facebook sites, orienting the public, communicating information to various audiences, fielding phone calls and greeting visitors as needed. Assisting with environmental education and public outreach efforts.   35%
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to grounds care, trash pickup, grounds and landscape maintenance efforts including mowing and leaf blowing as examples.   15%

Other:
  • Government Vehicle Training: Position requires a valid driver license and completion of defensive driver online course.??
  • Health and Safety Considerations: review of Refuge Job Hazard Analysis products, Defensive Driving training, check out on small equipment. Specialized training on motorboats and UTVs as examples would be assessed and provided for as needed.
  • Required Safety Gear: PPE (supplied) would be required for trash and debris pickup, grounds/landscape maintenance.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to work in a hot and humid environment, ability to lift 50 pounds.
