Test Design Engineer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   The Test Design Engineer is responsible for taking ownership of test requirements for QPL and New Development Projects. They will create test processes and ensure that all requirements are met for Amphenol FSI assemblies.  The new processes may utilize new or existing equipment, fixtures, processes, vendors, suppliers, or personnel.  Develop and prepare test proposals to meet requirements, fixture designs, schedules, and cost.  They will work to satisfy internal and external customers and provide operational support. 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop test plans, procedures, and processes for Commercial, Industrial or Military Fiber Optic Assemblies. 
  • Knowledge of fiber optic assemblies for Military / Commercial / Medical, Telecom, etc. is desired.
  • Responsible for providing, guiding, coaching, and training to other employees.
  • Operate electronics lab equipment.
  • Supports production and new product development for testing.
  • Troubleshooting to component level
  • Define test setup, collect, and analyze test data for trends and anomalies.
  • Support offsite testing of assemblies.
  • Estimate costs and provide schedules.
  • Understand military and fiber optic industry requirement documents.
  • Create test assemblies, data sheets and detailed reports for customers.
  • Research and analyze new requirements and industry standards for inclusion into standard process. 
  • Work closely with design, manufacturing engineering and operations to ensure the sufficiency of test requirements.   
  • Support and lead design reviews.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to read (write and speak in English) and interpret specifications from internal and customer specifications.
  • Strong technical skills (mechanical, electronics, optics, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Operate standard electronics lab equipment for testing fiber optics.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in customer service.
  • Strong team player.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (ME, EE, IE)
  • 1 - 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements.
