Athabasca University's Faculty of Health Disciplines is currently recruiting for the positions (2) of Assistant/Associate Professor, Master of Health Studies/Master of Nursing – Generalist Program.

The Faculty of Health Disciplines (FHD) is a proven national leader in health care education, offering high quality programs that enable graduates to make a difference in people's lives, lead innovation and progress in health care systems, engage in research, and chart rewarding, lifelong careers. The Faculty of Health Disciplines (FHD) offers innovative and accessible programs and courses in both undergraduate and graduate studies, including thesis research opportunities for graduate learners. Undergraduate programs include Post-LPN and Post-RN Bachelor of Nursing Programs. Graduate programs include Master of Counseling, Master of Health Studies (MHS), Master of Nursing-Generalist (MN-GEN), Master of Nursing-Nurse Practitioner.

FHD actively promotes research excellence and is home to our Canada Research Chair in Regulation, Social Governance, and Inequities in Health. Faculty members are engaged in programs of research in a variety of health-related areas. Faculty members' research is funded nationally, including CFI, CIHR, and SSHRC, as well as through regional and provincial organizations.

The Position:

Reporting through the Program Director, Master of Health Studies/Master of Nursing - Generalist, to the Dean, the Assistant/Associate Professor has 3 key areas of responsibility. They include:

Research and Scholarship: Developing and growing a sustained program of research in a key strategic area. This includes but is not limited to, attaining external research funding, disseminating widely via traditional and innovative means, and involving partners and stakeholders as needed.

Teaching and Learning: The faculty member will be responsible for developing, teaching, and evaluating undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the nursing and health studies programs.

Service to the Community: Participation in the life of Athabasca University and the community of which it is a part.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD and be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse in Alberta. The candidates should have three to five years of relevant academic and/or discipline-related experience, a developing research program, and be strongly committed to growing their skills, learning, and contributions across research and scholarship, teaching, and service at AU. At all ranks, candidates will be innovative and effective educators, may have some experience in the online learning environment, and have demonstrable potential to develop a strategic, credible, and agile research program. Demonstrated experience or potential to both lead and work respectfully and effectively as part of larger teams is essential. Openness and dedication to developing their skills and potential beyond areas of past or ongoing strength or success will be expected and fostered.
