Welder III/Floor Lead

As a welder fabricator, you will ensure that all work is fit up and welded to the specifications of each job and meets outlined requirements. In addition, you will work with the Operations Manager and QC to ensure all welders are able to accomplish the assigned weldments on schedule. This will include checking the work of the welders and ensuring all parts and welding supplies are available. You will also provide training and coaching to the entry level welders.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate various equipment (saw, shear, rollers, etc.) using safe work habits.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical and possible overhead.
  • Weld separately or in combination using aluminum, stainless steel, mild steel or other alloys.
  • Clamping, holding, tack welding, heat straightening, plasma cutting, and grinding required to obtain configurations and positions for welding.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance with customer specifications.
  • Minor repair and clean up may be required to meet customer expectations.
  • Train entry level welders on proper welding and fabricating to accomplish weldments given to them.
  • Work with QC to ensure correct welding and fabricating practices.
  • Monitor workflow and jobs moving through internal operations.
  • Order welding supplies that are not automatically stocked.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 plus years in a welding/fabrication environment.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills with knowledge of weld symbols.
  • Basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure (standard and metric).
  • Frequent lifting and/ or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Lifting equipment is available and recommended.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel as well as climb ladders.
  • Ability to operate forklifts.
  • Knowledge in the operation of cranes and rigging.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Adhere to all company safety standards and shop policies.
  • Possess own weld helmet and personal tools as needed.
  • Experience training less experienced welders.
