Planner - ATS Specialized

 

Summary

The Planner is responsible for providing continuous improvement in the productivity of ATS assets and to ensure that safe, efficient, and valuable transportation is provided to all ATS customers. Coordinate load assignments for available trucks. Serve as the main communicator between the Customer Service team and the Fleet Management team.

 

Education and Experience

  1. Higher education (i.e. two- or four-year degrees) in a related area and/or three to five years of training in a related area and/or equivalent experience in an operations and customer driven environment.
  2. Experience in the transportation industry preferred but not required.
  3. Knowledge of Department of Transportation laws preferred but not required.
  4. Experience and ability to read a map.
  5. Experience in developing strong relationships (personal/practical needs) to effectively manage, plan, prioritize workload of fleet.
  6. Strong customer service, time management and math skills with a drive for results who can persevere in the face of resistance or setbacks in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to implement logical conclusions and make well informed quick decisions.
  8. Ability to work independently and self-motivated.
  9. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.
  10. Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.
  11. Must be analytical with the ability to apply data.
  12. Must be able to think creatively and provide creative contributions to projects.
  13. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
  14. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  15. Excellent communication skills (written, listening, and verbal).
  16. Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate all load assignments and assign all loads within critical dispatch time.
  2. Assign all trucks in the area to freight which enables the load dispatch and follow all loads to assure on time pick-ups.
  3. Responsible for trailing equipment between areas to ensure the customer has proper equipment for the load on a timely basis.
  4. Monitor utilization and inventory of trailers at customers yard and terminal pools.
  5. Improves productivity of ATS assets to ensure safe, efficient and valuable transportation is provided to all ATS customers.
  6. Utilize new or diversified business opportunities to move excess freight.
  7. Monitor and control costs by meeting or exceeding company goals.
  8. Suggest changes and new ideas that would benefit customers and ATS.
  9. Assist Account Representative in establishing proper appointments.
  10. Work with internal departments to coordinate the balance of freight to available power units and to decide which customer is the priority.
  11. Communicate any service problems to leadership and find solutions to eliminate service problems in the future.
  12. Meet metrics for trailers sitting idle.
  13. Understands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS Mission, Vision, and Values.

  15. Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required. 
  16. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

This position performs work primarily in an office setting.

  1. Constantly in a stationary position and occasionally will move around.
  2. Constantly operates a keyboard and mouse and constantly utilizes a computer monitor(s).
  3. Conversing with internal and external customers in person or via phone system.
