JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Title:                              On-Call Senior Bus Driver

Department/Division:  Seniors                                                                        

Status:                           Hourly / On-call (days, times, and length of travel time varies and is not consistent)

Supervisor:                   Senior Director

Subordinates:               None

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Driver will be responsible for driving the community's senior citizens around to appointments and longer extended trips. The Driver must be very courteous and helpful to all passengers. The Senior Driver must have an excellent driving record and be a very safe driver.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate Class B vehicles in a safe and efficient manner
  • Maintain logs of working hours
  • Comply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations
  • Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Help other drivers as needed
  • Drive seniors on day trips or longer trips
  • Manage schedule with the Senior Department Director
  • Help seniors in and out of the vehicles and assist with any bags or other items they may be carrying at all times
  • Make sure vehicles are filled up with gas at all times
  • Keep vehicles stocked with water and sodas
  • Clean up the van after each trip
  • Make sure no items were left inside the van
  • Be courteous and very helpful to all passengers
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of safe and defensive driving practices.
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety inspections and detecting the need for routine preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to adequately communicate orally to all.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people from varied economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects up to 50 lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate or equivalent education (GED).
  • Must hold and maintain a California Class B driver's license with passenger endorsement and air brake certifications.
  • Must be registered or willing to register with Clearinghouse as DOT requires for all commercial drivers.
  • Must hold and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to operate handicap lifts preferred.
  • If requested, provide a printout of your driving record from the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants who are Pala Tribal Members.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Employee Handbook of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
