Overview

We are a Canadian business that has some sales activity in the USA and Mexico. Ownership and some supporting activities sit in the USA. The Controller services all regions.

As a senior member of the management team the Controller must be curious, energetic and care.

The Controller ensures that the Company’s assets are safeguarded, risks are mitigated, financial results are reported in an accurate and timely manner, produces strategic forecasts and budgets, ensures that we maintain cost effective insurance policies and competitive employee benefits.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises the processing of all accounting transactions including those associated with accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll including all journal entries.
  • Develop and maintain a system of documented accounting policies, processes and procedures that ensure effective control and timely processing of all transactions and that risk is minimized.
  • Reconciles all accounts in a timely manner including, but not limited to cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable and fixed assets.
  • Manage and report on all cash balances daily.
  • Produce daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial reporting required to support the operation of the business. Ensure that such reporting complies with generally accepted accounting principles, where applicable.
  • Provide management with required ad hoc financial analysis with emphasis on pricing decisions, contract negotiations and capital investments.
  • Produce forecasts and budgets as required by management. Explains significant variances.
  • Work with external accountants to ensure that annual financial reporting reviews are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Work with external accountants to ensure that we comply with income tax regulations; including the timing filling of income tax reports.
  • Actively identifies areas of improvement, defines solutions and gets them implemented
  • Ensures compliance with a variety reporting and licensing requirements
  • Employs brokers and consultants, as required, to ensure that we maintain adequate and cost-effective insurance policies.
  • Employs brokers and consultants, as required, to ensure that we maintain competitive and cost-effective employee benefits.
  • Manages the annual employee review process.
  • Refers employee matters to management and ensures compliance with all related employment policies.
  • Assists management in sourcing and interviewing candidates.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Accounting.
  • Ten years of related experience preferred.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, written and verbal.
  • Organized and manages time efficiently.
  • ERP experience – Sage and Amtech preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, or similar, products.
