Planner - Heavy Haul

Opportunity:

The Heavy Haul Planner is responsible for providing continuous improvement in the productivity of ATS assets (both drivers and trailers) and to ensure that safe, efficient, and valuable transportation is provided to all ATS customers. Coordinate load assignments for available trucks that meet customer and ATS expectations. Serve as the main communicator between the customer service team and the fleet management team prior to dispatch.

Scope of Opportunity:

  1. Coordinate all load assignments by assigning all trucks to freight and ensuring the driver meets the classification requirements.
  2. Ensure that the correct trailing equipment is selected for the commodity dimensions and weights being hauled.
  3. Plan for projects proactively to ensure capacity of trucks to meet demand.
  4. Follow through on loads, solve problems if loads are late, and communicate back to appropriate department through the process.
  5. Improve productivity of ATS assets to ensure safe, efficient, and valuable transportation is provided to all ATS customers.
  6. Monitor and controls revenue and expense by meeting or exceeding company goals.
  7. Monitor trailer utilization by knowing their location and ensure maintenance is managed accordingly.
  8. Utilize new or diversified business opportunities to move freight.
  9. Suggest changes or new ideas that would benefit drivers, customers and ATS.
  10. Communicate between internal departments proactively to establish appointments and provide excellent service.
  11. Work with internal departments to coordinate the balance of freight to available trucks.
  12. Communicate any service problems with customer service and operations.
  13. Assign all loads within critical dispatch time.

Skillset Necessary for Success

  1. High School diploma required and 2-4 years of experience in a customer-driven environment preferred.
  2. Experience in the transportation industry is required.
  3. A working knowledge of open-deck equipment and how over-dimensional freight is handled.
  4. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.
  5. Must be able to be creative in solutions and pro-active in planning.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with all levels of staff.  Able to relate effectively to diverse cultures.
  7. Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills to implement logical conclusions and make well-informed quick decisions.
  8. Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.
  9. Experience in developing strong relationships to effectively manage, plan, and prioritize workload.
  10. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
