Supervisor:                    Tribal Services Manager

Subordinates:                None

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Laborer will be responsible for providing assistance to the Tribal Services Manager in responding to the needs of the tribe and its residents.  This position performs various assigned duties in outside maintenance and refuse work.  This position will be providing assistance needed within the community.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to follow directions and work without constant supervision.

  • Assists in digging trenches.

  • Assists in cutting down trees.

  • Clean septic tanks and clean up trash.

  • It is mandatory to pick up trash on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

  • Help other Pala Band of Mission Indians departments with anything needed.

  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds or more.

  • Be able to endure extremes in temperature or harsh weather conditions.

  • Set up for Special Events such as: The Gathering and Cupa Days.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:

  • Prior knowledge, use and application, of construction and maintenance equipment.

  • Knowledge of and experience with small community water/wastewater systems is highly desirable.

  • Ability to adequately communicate orally to accomplish work.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people in varied economic, educational and cultural backgrounds.

  • Ability to lift 70 pounds regularly, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and stand for long periods of time. 

  • Proficient in the use of small hand tools and power tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School degree or GED certificate.

  • Minimum 1-year general construction or maintenance experience.

  • MANDATORY Valid California Driver's License in good standing (no DUIs).

  • No physical limitation. 

  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.

  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.
