Designer

Located in Mississauga, ON, Republic Packaging of Canada is one of Chicago-based Republic Packaging Corp.'s eight North American operating locations. As a 60 year-old provider of cushion packaging we are known for outstanding design, quality and customer service. In addition, we have a sister company, Impacte, which provides warehouse management services and can complement our packaging products or be a stand-alone service to provide solutions to our customers' problems.

With our eye toward growth, we are actively working to grow our sales by 50% over the next 3 years and enter new markets with our Impacte service offering. We are seeking an experienced and insightful Engineering professional to join the Design Team at our ISO certified facility and support our Sales and R&D efforts.

Role responsibilities:

  • Working with Sales and Estimating, to provide structural drawings, print specifications and bill of materials for corrugate, folding carton, foam and wood projects
  • Update and maintain designs required from customers
  • Assist in creating graphics for designs and projects
  • Fulfill all incoming requests and production tasks according to their urgency
  • Adhere to the companies' brand, visual and style guidelines
  • Work with existing concepts and deliver supporting designs, as well as execute original designs based on supporting strategy and brand guidelines.
  • Conceptualize and build custom creative concepts for sales pitches and client presentations.
  • Assist Sales with workflow and management of day-to-day design operations.
  • Determine if the Design Request/Quote Request information is complete.
  • Review results and determine what material to use.
  • Develop packaging shape/style as per Design Quote Request Form.

What you bring:

  • A degree in engineering is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time experience in a structural design role, with graphic capabilities a plus.
  • Strong sense of design and thorough understanding of design theory including principles.
  • Experience with flexible foams or corrugated design & manufacturing is a plus.
  • Advanced ability in CAD, 3-D modeling and graphics packages.
    • Autocad, Adobe Illustrator, SolidWorks, Artios, et al.
  • Intermediate experience using project management processes and software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain smoothly functioning relationships across various departments.
  • Ability to lead projects and take on more responsibility as the business dictates.
