Position Title: Doctor's Assistant (Doctor's Assistant; DA)

Department: Emergency and Critical care

Position Reports to: Support Staff Manager

Position Overview:
The Doctor's Assistant plays a crucial role in enhancing the patient and client experience within our emergency and critical care setting. This customer-service-oriented position collaborates closely with veterinarians to ensure seamless administrative support, contributing to the efficient functioning of the hospital. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering exceptional care to both pets and their owners

Job Duties:

  • Accurate Charge Management: Enter charges and maintain a high standard of accuracy for invoices, ensuring timely updates as necessary.
  • Client Interaction: Create and review treatment estimates with clients and collect deposits for those proceeding with care plans and hospitalization.
  • Administrative Support: Assist veterinarians with a variety of tasks, including managing medical records, inputting patient data, tracking lab results, and coordinating communication with referring veterinarians.
  • Financial Communication: Provide financial updates to pet owners, collecting additional deposits when treatment plans change or hospitalization duration increases.
  • Client Updates: Offer general medical updates to clients when appropriate, ensuring they are informed throughout the treatment process

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years working in a veterinary role, preferably in an emergency or specialty hospital setting.
  • Time Management: Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex medical concepts clearly and professionally to clients and colleagues.
  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with Smartflow and EzyVet software is preferred.
  • Detail-Oriented: Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology and common veterinary medications.
  • Professionalism: Consistently communicate in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities are required to do this job including close vision. This position requires walking and/or standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted, 75 lbs. with assistance. The working environment may be stressful with aggressive, frightened, abused or injured pets that may bite or scratch. Must be able to work flexible hours including some holidays, evenings and weekends.
