OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

Dessert Holdings is looking for a Director of Manufacturing Operations which can be based in St. Paul, Minnesota or Remotely.  Reporting to the SVP of Manufacturing and Engineering, the Manufacturing Director is responsible for manufacturing plant operations in four sites (London, Ontario; Delta, British Columbia; Newburyport, MA; Le Center, MN).  This position leads the region to results and ensures they meet or exceed budgetary objectives through focusing on Safety, Quality, Cost, Performance and Attainment.  This Director will ensure year-over-year improvements in all Key Performance areas by leading, guiding, and coaching the plant managers with clear and consistent feedback and providing information and best practices. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Human Safety, Quality, and Sanitation:
    • In collaboration with the Quality department, implement all Safe Quality Food, Sanitation, and Food Safety requirements and objectives for all assigned plants and assign accountability for results.
    • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and environmental regulatory and corporate standards, with accountability for a safe working environment through incident reduction strategies.
    • Responsible for site security/Food defense in assigned facilities.
  • Cost:
    • Manage assigned business metrics including material usage variance, labor efficiency, and overhead expenses.
    • Lead and guide Plant Managers during annual budgeting process and ensure achievement of expected targets in line with Company policy and customer requirements.
    • Coach, lead and guide each Plant Manager to meet targets on controllable aspects of variable and fixed costs, including direct and indirect labor, SG&A, R&M, waste, energy, etc.
  • Performance:
    • Drive EBITDA, OEE, attainment, and delivery for each plant.
    • Actively manage large manufacturing or Continuous Improvement projects, and collaborate on Capital projects.
    • Oversee the targeted fulfillment of customer orders at 98.5% within specifications of quality, quantity, and cost.
    • Effectively communicate expectations of performance requirements throughout relevant departments including Supply Chain.
    • Develop and communicate business impact at plant and regional level with weekly and monthly performance reports and urgently and actively address any shortfalls in performance with plant leadership teams.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, preferably engineering
  • At least 10 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing management, including prior experience in food manufacturing
  • Proven leadership experience and track record as a change agent utilizing solid project and program management skills, Continuous Improvement, and a boots-on-the-ground approach
  • Strong sense of urgency and able to analyze and solve problems to get results
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across multiple teams and functions, including all levels of the organization up to the Executive level
  • Strong MS Office skills and ERP experience (ideally with ERP implementation experience)
  • Ability to travel extensively (up to 80%) throughout North America
