Water Distribution Maintenance Leader II
PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION:
Acts as a working supervisor in performing a variety of unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled tasks; performs as a member of a work group or supervises workers on individual job assignments engaged in planned or scheduled general maintenance on the City’s water distribution system, and other related assigned duties.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Supervises the participation of and operates hand tools, power tools, light trucks, and small equipment.
- Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system.
- Performs lead work including training, directing, planning and participating with a group of workers involved in a wide variety of planned and scheduled maintenance activities in the water distribution system, including operating small to medium equipment.
- Digs ditches and trenches, lays pipe, installs and repairs valves.
- Oversees and coordinates with outside contractors while replacing and/or installing new water mains, fire hydrants and water lines.
- Reviews plans of new water lines. Locates all City-owned water lines for outside entities.
- Performs special worksite and traffic setup.
- Directs movement of work materials and equipment.
- Maintains and orders inventory.
- Responds to and resolves public inquiries and complaints in a courteous and timely manner.
- Performs routine inspections and conducts required water testing for new lines.
- Monitors and completes all related paperwork.
- Performs other work as necessary and or as assigned.
- Must report to work on a regular and timely basis.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
The Water Distribution Maintenance Leader II reports directly to the Water Distribution Superintendent.
The Water Distribution Maintenance Leader II supervises the work of the, Public Works Equipment Operator I, and Water Distribution Maintenance Worker II.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, and five (5) years of experience as a trades helper or maintenance laborer in any of the construction and maintenance trades, preferably including some work experience involving the operation of light to medium construction equipment with at least two (2) year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Extensive knowledge of manual labor work practices, methods, tools and materials of varied, semiskilled maintenance work; and considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to lead a group of workers performing manual labor for extended periods of time, in varying weather conditions; ability to use and instruct others in the use of mechanical tools and equipment; ability to operate and instruct others in the use of various types of automotive and power equipment; ability to read and interpret plans and specifications; ability to plan and oversee the work of semiskilled and skilled workers; and the ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers, or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding.

Punctuality and reasonable attendance is essential. Must submit to drug screening and fitness to work physical exam.
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class B CDL is required. Must possess a class “C” Water license issued by the State Department of Health, or ability to obtain license within nine (9) months of appointment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work in this classification is primarily outdoors. Will travel to other City locations as required. Exposure to wet, hot, cold and/or humid conditions. Requires ability to work weekends and holidays as required and maintain a stand-by status.
