Marketing Manager

PURPOSE OF THE CLASSIFICATION:   

The Marketing Manager (MM) is primarily responsible for the all marketing efforts of the Tourism and Exposition Department.  This position is also responsible for the collection, organization and presentation of important data and analytics associated with tracking and documenting tourism trends and outcomes.  The MM provides marketing, social media and website management to increase tourism for Muskogee. This position serves as a member of the Exposition Events team.

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Provides monthly reports of all tourism data;
  • Assists in Tourist Information Centers by working with the Office Administrator to ensure effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Works within the scope of the Tourism contract to assist the Tourism Manager with marketing and promotions via media, writing and design of articles and ads, design of print materials, broadcast announcements, obtaining photographs, writing press releases, and other miscellaneous media;
  • Manages the development of Muskogee Tourism’s social media plan by working with any contracted agencies (when applicable), and monitors the effectiveness through evaluation of analytics, other usage and feedback, and provides monthly reports to the Director of Tourism & Exposition
  • Coordinates the promotion and communication efforts on behalf on Muskogee Tourism events such as festivals, conventions, fishing tournaments, races and other activities that are expected to bring large numbers of tourists to Muskogee;
  • Is the primary person responsible for updating the Tourism website information on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and thoroughness including posting agendas and new information, and responding to website inquiries;
  • Oversees social media presence on a daily basis, including posts, providing photos, contests and other paid ads, in keeping with the social media strategy as developed by the Marketing Team;
  • Assists in responding to social media inquiries or posts that require acknowledgement; communicates concerns and pertinent information from social media to the TM and DTE

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Marketing Manager reports directly to the Director of Tourism and Exposition.

The Marketing Manager does not have any direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience:  College degree preferred but not required and five (5) years of experience working in tourism, sales, marketing or related fields is required. 

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: 

  • A strong work ethic and the ability to complete work without constant supervision.
  • Experience in working to meet specific goals and deadlines.
  • Proficient and willing to use all types of social media on behalf of Muskogee Tourism.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work with people in person, one-on-one or in groups, on the phone and via email.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative and team environment.
  • The ability to work outside of general office hours on an as needed basis.
  • Must be organized and have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Basic Microsoft Office and computer skills and the ability to learn and manage membership software.
  • Experience and proficient knowledge of Canva, Adobe InDesign and other graphic design programs helpful.
  • College degree preferred but not required.  Experience working in tourism, sales, marketing or related fields required.

Licenses and Certificates:  Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class D driver’s license is required. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:    Work in this classification is primarily indoors in an office environment.  Will travel to other City locations as required. 

WORK HOURS:  8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Requires ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and irregular hours.
