LPN I
Function as a support agent to all clients in the program, supervising their day-to-day activities in accordance with the established schedule and procedures of the program.
Assist the psychiatrist and physician in monitoring clients receiving psychotropic medications, ordering supplies and medications as needed, and documenting inventory.
Assist in evaluating the clients' general medical and mental status.
Assist attending physician in performing routine medication checks.
Administer intramuscular medications as ordered by the doctor.
Record documentation of medications given on MAR and in Electronic Health Record.
Conduct, document and bill for medication monitoring on consumers receiving psychotropic medication.
Provide individual and group training and education to consumers regarding their psychotropic medications and other health-related concerns.
Complete admission paperwork for any admissions during shift in Electronic Health Record.
Provide emergency assessment regarding clients' medication and mental status.
Responsible for contacting the doctor when any significant change in client medication is indicated.
Responsible for completing all forms and paperwork required by Carastar.
Participate in training activities to increase skills and become more knowledgeable in methods and techniques used in the care of psychiatric clients and in the use and effects of psychotropic drugs.
Supervise assignment of daily tasks for mental health techs. Notify the Program Director of any issues or concerns with mental health techs during your shift.
Remain on the unit at all times if Working as the sole LPN. Notify supervisor of late arrival or absence of relief for next shift.
Perform related work as requested by supervisor.
12% Billing productivity requirement.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of principles, techniques and standards of mental health nursing.
Knowledge of individual and group behavior with emphasis on the problems of the mentally ill.
Knowledge of psychotropic drugs.
Ability to relate warmly to clients.
Ability to recognize in clients any adverse reactions to medication.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Be a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Alabama with some experience in nursing, preferably in a psychiatric setting with decision making responsibilities.
Experience working independently with little supervision is desired.
Must maintain Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and CPI certifications at all times.
Must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record that is acceptable to Carastar's insurance carrier.
Must maintain at least liability coverage on personal vehicles.
