Engineering Manager – Technology Development

 

Job Summary:  

The Engineering Manager – Technology Development leads and manages a team of engineers, focusing on     both technical and people management aspects to ensure passive products projects are completed successfully and teams are motivated and productive. They bridge the gap between technical execution and strategic business goals, ensuring projects align with company objectives and are delivered on time and within budget. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • This position has supervisory responsibilities. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Provide technical leadership in product design. 

  • Plan, organize, and oversee projects, ensuring they meet quality standards and deadlines. 

  • Lead the Technology Development Engineering team in optimizing product design, streamlining process, and ensuring on-time, on–budget execution of custom and standard products. 

  • Drive optimization of custom and standard fixtures to meet client requirements and cost targets 

  • Provide input to department development roadmaps, and investments in tools to support product development. 

  • Identify and resolve technical and interpersonal challenges that arise during projects. 

  • Support new product introductions that are handed off from New Product Development. 

  • Coordinate closely with Design/Sales, Production, and Purchasing to ensure seamless handoff from concept to production and on time delivery. 

  • Monitor and evaluate current processes to identify areas for optimization and implement improvements. 

  • Utilize and implement process control methodology to solve problems and improve process control and capability issues. 

  • Recruit, hire, and develop talent to support department goals. 

  • Help establish department G&O. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Able to take ownership of product lines and work with Key Account Salespeople to bring a broad market perspective to assist Sales in meeting customer needs. 

  • Ability to identify problems that need resolution, propose solutions, and escalate as needed. 

  • Develop independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload and recommend changes in office practices or procedures. 

  • Expected travel level up to 10%. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering required. 

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering preferred. 

  • 1 year of managerial experience required. 

  • 10 years of thermal system design, structural design, and control systems experience required. 

  • A minimum of 3-5 years' related experience in manufacturing product management, design engineering, or manufacturing engineering.   

  • CREO/Windchill preferred, 3D CAD (SW or other) required. 

  • FEA experience (stress, creep, compression, etc.) using CREO Simulate or Ansys. 

  • Familiarity with industry standards including: Telcordia Specification, ASME, ASHRAE, etc. and the testing required. 

  • Knowledge of Product Life Cycle Management, 3 D printing and RCA required. 

  • Familiarity with IP management. 

  • Member of ASME and/or ASHRAE preferred. 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
