THE ROLE

Group: Amphenol Commercial Products Group – BU Basics FCI

Report to: Plant GM
The Amphenol Commercial Products Group (ACPG), with revenues in excess of $1.2B, consists of 7 Businesses possessing a broad array of standard and custom products serving diverse markets worldwide. ACPG has ~9,000 employees with design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities across North America, Europe and Asia.
The Basics FCI Business Unit under ACPG is currently seeking a site operations manager in Besancon. This role will be responsible for all aspects of the operations, including setting the manufacturing up for running, building and leading a multi-functional team to ensure productivity, safety, quality, and customer expectation goals are achieved.
This Operation Manager will be instrumental in driving productivity and profitability within the site's operation and plays a critical role to bring tight alignment between BU strategy and operations execution.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the Manufacturing (Plating, Molding, Stamping, Assembly, Quality and Supply Chain) Process Development with driving and executing with Lean Six Sigma (Blackbelt) advanced manufacturing strategies that meet both short-term and future needs.
- Oversee resource planning, technical risk mitigation, and cost management to ensure on-time product development.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Product management and Supply Chain to transition (new) processes into high-volume production smoothly and efficiently.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align engineering initiatives with broader business goals.
- Serve as a voting member of project review and approval committees, ensuring execution integrity and identifying gaps or risks.
- Set performance goals that support business strategy, focusing on capability development, efficiency, and productivity improvements.
- Develop a strong operational talent pipeline, emphasizing skill growth, mentorship, and succession planning.
- Lead cost-reduction initiatives by aligning teams to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-cost (DFC) principles.
- Represent the MPDE function during customer audits and manufacturing reviews; present updates and strategies to senior leadership.
- Partners with BU to set production objectives that align with the Customer needs and BU strategy. The role is directly responsible for the efficient integration of connectors into commercial cable assemblies and added value operations.
- Accountable for the business P&L, meeting and improving financial margins through annual budget planning and delivery of revenue and costs per established business plan.
- Develop and implement procedures to ensure the production and processes run reliably and efficiently and ensure compliance with all applicable and related regulations.
- Encourage and promote a culture of continuous improvement (blackbelt lean six sigma methodologies) by managing and monitoring production operation expenses and researching ways to reduce direct and indirect manufacturing expenses and capital expenses while maintaining product quality.
- Create and lead a culture of quality, responsible for the achievement of goals in quality of products and services provided by the site.
- Take the ownership of all supply chain / procurement activities to ensure an integrated sourcing process that meets customer requirements, minimize total cost and maximizes effectiveness.
- Efficiently communicate and manage in a matrix environment across Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Service and Engineering teams.
- Support local EH&S and drive execution of initiatives to provide a safe workplace with zero incidents for our employees and ensure all staff members are aware of safety policies.
- Serve as a role model of leadership. Set direction and select, develop and coach individuals and build a high performing team, identify organizational gaps and implement plans.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical Skills:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of deep knowledge of manufacturing technologies: automation, molding, stamping, plating, machining, and assembly.
- Familiarity with materials (e.g., metal alloys, resins), and production methods
- Solid foundation in manufacturing quality systems, Six Sigma principles, and root-cause analysis tools.
- Experience working with and negotiating equipment suppliers.
- Full knowledge of IATF-16949 & VDA 6.3
Leadership & Business Acumen:
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to build credible relationships
- Strong ability to align engineering & product management strategies with business goals and customer requirements.
- Skilled at influencing across functions and cultures; able to lead multicultural teams.
- Comfortable managing multiple complex projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Proven ability to mentor and coach team members to elevate performance.
Education & Tools:
- Bachelor’s or Master degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Must be proficient in the English and French communication. Additional languages skills will be preferred.
