Composite Technician I

Job Summary:

Bonds various materials, including composites and laminate, together to create parts, prototypes, or products. Operates measuring tools, cutting tools, and various other equipment to bind, laminate, cut, vacuum-bag, cure, smooth, and perform other operations on composite material.  

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Cut glass template for products following and reviewing instructions, documentation, engineering models and drawings. 
  • Follow the laminate schedule and load the fiberglass properly into the mold. 

  • Apply vacuum bag and check for leaks to ensure quality parts. 

  • Use basic hand tools to release parts from molds and stages for trimming. 

  • Accurately use mold release and apply properly to mold surface. 

  • Use pneumatic power tools to trim parts to the appropriate dimensions. 

  • Performs basic finishing and assembly functions. 

  • Follows shop orders and verifies correct accessories are attached to the products. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team. 

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety procedures and operating processes and procedures.  

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and volume.  

  • Define problems and troubleshoot situations using strong conceptual thinking abilities. 

  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment and mechanical equipment and tools.  

  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Attention to detail. 

  • Efficient time management skills. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Previous manufacturing or relevant work experience is preferred.

Charles Industries weight rule:  35 lbs. and under can be lifted alone35 - 50 lbs. can be lifted by one person if they feel comfortable doing so50 lbs. or more requires the employee to get assistance or use a lifting device. (i.e. pallet jack, forklift, scissor table, buddy system). 

 

Work Environment:  

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential job functions. 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to high temperatures, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. 

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as coveralls and respirator are required to perform specific duties.  Safety shoes/boots are required.
