The Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Administrative / Office support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through a grant administered program through National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise and experience will truly be valued. You'll be working side-by-side with EPA staff that are doing important work every day. Hours: 40 per week, Monday - Friday Days, no nights or weekends Pay rate: $22.21/hr. Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium, Paid Accrued Vacation, Paid Accrued Sick Time, Eleven Paid Federal Holidays, One Individual Holiday, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available. This position requires a background security check including questionnaire, fingerprinting and identification verification prior to start. Please note that due to EPA Policy, this opportunity only applies to United States Citizens.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 year(s) of experience in Public Health, pesticides, environmental and agricultural areas OR BA/BS Degree OR Previously completed training in Developing/delivery training programs and educational/promotional materials, making presentations

  • Experience developing and/or delivering training programs, developing educational or promotional materials and making presentations.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS SharePoint, MS Teams, Copying Machine
Duties:

Provide expert level scientific and professional support to the Land, Chemicals and Redevelopment Division, Tanks, Toxics and Pesticides Branch with providing assistance to Region 7 Tribes on pesticide and lead ?based paint program activities. This work would address the areas of safe pesticide use, storage, etc. and providing outreach and education to promote pollinator protection and the use of integrated pest management in and around homes, schools, or other facilities serving children or vulnerable populations. It will also include outreach to Tribal communities, service organizations and agencies on the hazards of lead-based paint.

  • Provide direct and expert level assistance to Tribes, both onsite and from the office and provide general outreach. The enrollee will meet independently with tribal representatives and groups to solicit program ideas/needs and to deliver outreach and education on pesticide and/or lead-based paint related issues to include pollinator protection, safe pesticide use/storage, etc. and the benefits of integrated pest management.   35%
  • Working with broad guidance, the employee will be responsible for developing and implementing plans for pesticide and lead-based paint outreach and education. Will coordinate and implement pesticide related outreach and education events or messaging activities with internal and external partners and organizations. Examples include meetings, trainings, newsletter or social media messages, and other related educational activities.   35%
  • Collaborate, initiate and engage with Region 7 staff and other EPA Regions and Headquarters, and other Federal, State and Local Agencies to support Region 7 Tribes   15%
  • Other related duties as assigned such as preparing and managing outreach materials, and event related information (e.g. registrations, materials, and evaluations), preparing/summarizing accomplishments for reporting purposes, etc   15%

Other:
  • SEE enrollee may be required to meet certification standards prior to participating in field work. Field activities will require basic health and safety training
  • Travel Requirements: SEE enrollees may not operate governmental-owned vehicles.
  • Overnight travel: to meet and deliver pesticide and lead-based paint programs in Indian County 2 - days per month
  • Rental cars: 2-3 days per month
  • Health Safety Training: Basic 24-hour Health and Safety Training and 8 hour refresher
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Via in -person Regionally provided training or via approved internet training.
  • Required Safety Gear: Steel toed boots, goggle, gloves
  • Safety Gear Use: Attending or providing field demonstrations or demonstrating IPM assessments within a school or other occupied facility may require use of safety equipment
