The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals aged 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise, and experience will truly be valued. The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff who are doing important work every day. Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium for positions budgeted at 60+ hours per pay period, Accrued Vacation and Sick Leave, Paid Federal Holidays, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available for positions budgeted at 35+ hours per pay period. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee. NOTE: An ?ACES Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?ACES Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the USDA-NRCS and administered by NEW Solutions. Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Developing and implementing communications programs/campaigns and preparing informational materials to support them. OR BA/BS Degree in Engineering

  • Valid State Driver?s license
  • Experience required with MS Word
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), digital photography, videography, Social Media tools (Twitter, Hootsuite, Facebook) and PowerPoint
Duties:

Enrollee provides technical assistance to survey, design, installation, check out, and follow-up of engineering practices; prepares engineering plans using engineering software, including hydrologic and hydrological models. Enrollee provides general technical assistance in support of the engineering workload.

  • Provide planning and design for engineering practices necessary to address resource concerns in such areas as erosion control, wetland construction and management, watermanagement, and water quality enhancement. Knowledge on structural designing is encourage as well.   30%
  • Oversee construction inspections by preparing designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for conventional engineering practices or systems & assist with portions of more unique or complex designs.   20%
  • Uses agency-appropriate marketing materials to increase awareness of NRCS programs and services by presenting or educating producers and partners about contacting their local Service Center.   20%
  • Provide planning follow-up with landowners by checking the progress of conservation practices under construction, including wetland construction and management, water management, and water quality enhancement. Provides construction quality assurance.   20%
  • Provides professional engineering service training in field investigations (inventory & evaluation), surveying, planning, design, construction, and certification of engineering practices by agency policy, requirements, and specifications. Advise, mentor, and guide field office staff and technicians on engineering procedures of varying engineering complexity.   10%

  • Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Travel Requirements: Some travel to Field Offices or Farms to gather information, visuals, and data to be used for stories and outreach.
  • Overnight travel: option may be available, depending on projects the engineering staff is working on.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
