Qualified technicians with relevant experience and manufacturer training may start at 30.00+ an hour.  Overtime is available and paid at time +1/2.

Southeastern Equipment is looking for a Heavy Equipment Shop Technician who is looking for the challenge of working with 80 lines of equipment and attachments and unparalleled opportunities to grow in both field service and management.   

Primary Responsibility Summary 

The primary responsibility of a shop mechanic for heavy equipment involves conducting maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on various machinery to ensure efficient and safe operation. This includes troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, replacing worn parts, and adhering to safety protocols. Additionally, maintaining accurate documentation, collaborating with team members, and staying updated on industry advancements through training are essential aspects of the role. Overall, the goal is to optimize equipment performance, minimize downtime, and uphold safety standards.

  • Minimal travel required, estimated x days for meetings and training

 Roles and Responsibilities 

 Diagnose and Repair Equipment 

  • Repair equipment in a safe and high quality manner 

  • Provides parts lists as needed 

  • Performs inspections as directed and suggests other needed repairs 

  • Perform Diagnostics, to recreate customer complaint (if needed) 

  • Communicates work order and all part numbers required to perform assigned repairs to parts department 

  • Communicates work order and all shop materials required to perform assigned repairs to service department manager.  

  • Makes repairs required in a safe and effective manner 

  • Ensure that all repairs are completed as assigned 

  • Ensure all parts and materials not used are returned to parts department and communicates to service manager to have them removed 

  • Maintain the work area in a clean and safe condition 

  • Ensures repairs are completed within the quoted time or communication with their Manager takes place as soon as the technician is aware that the quoted time will not be met. 

 3C Documentation 

  • Ensures all work order notes contain 3C (Complaint, Cause, Correction) 

  • Records time on appropriate work order, maintains proper notes/documentation of work preformed 

  • All record keeping methods are followed per instructions 

  • All cost-related items are included in the work order 

  • Ensure all records kept are legible  

  • Ensures all notes are taken and recorded on the electronic work order software daily 

  Inspections and Customer Interaction 

  • Customer communication where applicable about machine breakdown/repairs 

  • Inspection of equipment for additional needs/work 

 5s, Safety, and Training 

  • Maintain work areas or truck in a clean and orderly environment 

  • All tools and special equipment used on repairs are clean before returning them 

  • All specialty tools used on jobs are returned to the original location in working condition 

  • Report to Service Manager any broken or missing tools immediately 

  • OSHA 10 Training 

  • Follow all safety rules 

 Teamwork and Values 

  •  Assists service team on quoting jobs 
  • All communications with customers and coworkers is conducted with respect and honesty 

 Educational and Experience Requirements 

 GED/HS Diploma plus a minimum 2 year Diesel Technology, Ag Technology, Automotive Technology or Heavy Equipment Technology degree or equivalent experience 

  • 2-5 years of experience working on hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems or heavy equipment maintenance experience preferred 

  • Welding and cutting torch experience preferred 

  • Basic tool set and storage 

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information 

  • Must be personable, highly motivated, a problem solver, reliable, ethical and able to adapt to all forces around them from customers, suppliers, coworkers and manufacturers 

 Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

  •  The employee is frequently required to walk; climb or balance; crawl; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee will use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. 
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

  • The employee will occasionally be required to lift and manipulate moderately heavy-to-heavy objects such as parts (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.  

  • The employee will be occasionally required to lift 5-10 lbs overhead.  

  • The employee will be expected to climb, inspect, work on and dismount heavy construction equipment daily. 

  • The employee will frequently be required to push, pull, and hinge at the waist to inspect both equipment and parts and make equipment repairs.   

  • Stand for long periods of time. 

  • Use heavy power tools daily.
