The NPS Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. NPS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 40 weeks. A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date.? Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave.? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPS direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission.? NPS ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Communications or community engagement OR BA/BS Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs

  • Enrollee must be fluent in Spanish
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point
  • Adobe Acrobat; MS Teams, Outlook, SharePoint
Duties:

Enrollee will work with park staff to consolidate all of the Latino engagement work the Chesapeake Bay Office has funded over the last several years in order to develop a toolkit for visitor experience network places to use. Fluency in Spanish is required for this position.

  • Collate and synthesize various products and reports from previously funded projects into one comprehensive toolkit for partners. Work will require searching records, interviewing past points of contact, and filling in missing gaps with new research and community knowledge. This duty requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, tact, and organization.   45%
  • Using partner input and feedback, work collaboratively with the NPS Chesapeake Gateways communications specialist to finalize a Latino Engagement Toolkit for Chesapeake Gateways Places.   40%
  • Develop and provide a briefing to inform options for the engagement toolkit approach for NPS Chesapeake Gateways: facilitate a discussion of CHBA Management Team (MT) to select approach.   10%
  • Develop presentation for the Chesapeake Gateways assistance network to be provided virtually to introduce the toolkit and provide best practices for implementation.   5%

  • NPS-specific systems and processes
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to the NPS Chesapeake Office in Annapolis, MD or travel to partner sites throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed region may be required. Anticipate 3-4 trips per year of up to one week
  • Overnight travel: Up to quarterly
  • Air travel anticipated: Depending on enrollee location, air travel may be required
  • Rental cars: If air travel is required, rental cars may be required as well
  • Physical requirements: Position is primarily sedentary with occasional visits to park headquarters or partner sites throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Walking/hiking as part of site tours may be required. Driving to site visits is also anticipated
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
