Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Minimum of 15 years of experience in inventory, evaluation, planning, design, analysis and construction of engineering projects varying in size from smaller individual farm projects to extensive watershed projects. This includes preparation and/or review of geologic investigations, design computations, technical specifications, and oversight of various agency programs, including EQIP, CSP and RCPP. This position will require skills in hydraulics, hydrology, irrigation, watershed planning, stream stabilization and renovation, soil mechanics, erosion and sediment control, and storm water management. OR BA/BS Degree in (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

  • Valid State Driver?s license, Professional Engineering Registration, extensive demonstrated knowledge of NRCS engineering survey, design, construction and certification processes.

Duties:

The incumbent provides technical and programmatic assistance to the State and Area staff in evaluating engineering practices, designing conservation practices, reviewing practice designs, performing construction checks, checkout of practices and assisting engineers and technicians in their implementation of Farm Bill programs across the state.

  • Provides reviews and guidance of partner professional engineering services in field investigations (inventory & evaluation), surveying, planning, design, construction, and certification of engineering practices in accordance with agency policy, requirements and specifications. Advise, mentor, guide and train partner engineering staff, NRCS field office staff and technicians on engineering procedures of varying engineering complexity. Review Farm Bill Program plans with partners for acceptance by NRCS. Interpret and explain NRCS Engineering requirements to partner staff. Develop and build relationships with partner engineering staff by working closely with NRCS Partnerships staff.   100%
