Machine Operator C – FAB

The Machine Operator sets up and operates a production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. The job also controls and adjusts machine settings to complete simple tasks accurately, according to specifications, and in a timely fashion. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  •  Set up and run a PEM machine. 
  • Set up and run a drill/TAP machine. 

  • Set up and run a break press. 

  • Set up and run a turret. 

  • Set up and run a tool sharpener. 

  • Grinding after welding is complete. 

  • Operate other equipment associated with Fab shop production needs. 

  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team. 

  • Ability to apply fractions, addition, subtraction, division and decimals, and common fractions in all units of measure.  

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. 

  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment and mechanical equipment and tools.  

  • Thorough understanding of or the ability to quickly learn production equipment. 

  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Attention to detail. 

  • Efficient time management skills. 

 

Education and Experience: 

  • A high school diploma or general education (GED) is required. 

  • One to three years of related experience and/or training. 

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. 

  • Understand and have the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.

Charles Industries weight rule:  35 lbs. and under can be lifted alone.  35 - 50 lbs. can be lifted by one person if they feel comfortable doing so.  50 lbs. or more requires the employee to get assistance or use a lifting device. (i.e. pallet jack, forklift, scissor table, buddy system). 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

 

Work Environment:  

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential job functions. 

  • The employee regularly works near moving, vibrating mechanical equipment, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and exposed to minimal risk of electrical shock. 

  • Noise level is usually loud, hearing protection and testing are required. PPE required. 

  • Safety shoes/boots are required. 

  • Working in the Fab department may require employee to occasionally work around chemicals as defined in the work instruction for the plating operation area. The noise level is usually loud.
