Duties:

This position shall act as a project manager for Death Valley National Park?s recovery from flash flood damage. Incumbant will support and coordinate damage assessment, scoping, investment review, staffing, contracting, and execution of projects related to repairing and hardening paved and unpaved roads; repairing damaged trails; stabilizing and restoring buildings; mitigating hazardous materials; and repairing and hardening of utilities Ensures biological and cultural surveys are completed of these areas for effective compliance with National Environmental Policy Act (NHPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and other applicable laws. The position may also assist other parks with project management support within the Pacific West Region of the National Park Service as time and funding allows.

  • Assists park superintendent, park managers, and regional disaster and transportation program leads in coordinating the park?s disaster recovery logistics: Advising on priorities, budget, staffing needs, partner agency involvement (e.g., FHWA), and contractor mobilization to ensure effective application of resources to advance recovery work and an appropriate level of quality for flood restoration projects.   20%
  • Develops and coordinates project milestones, investment review documents, progress updates, work requirement statements, and cost estimates to ensure projects are completed within quality, budget, and schedule commitments. Otherwise, supports park staff to ensure task completion.   30%
  • Acts as a consultant to Contracting Officer?s Representative (COR) for associated projects that require such supervision.   20%
  • Mentors NPS staff on strategic planning and prioritization of facility assets and operations for climate change resiliency.   20%
  • Applies knowledge of partnership agreements to work with the Superintendent, NPS Regional Program Managers and other park partners to engage cooperators and leverage funding for these projects.   10%

  • Required Certifications: Ability to work both within a team setting, but also independently; Mature, responsible and adaptable with a demonstrable willingness to learn; Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; Self-motivated with ability to maintain a positive attitude; and Possess a valid, clean, state-issued driver's license
  • Overnight travel: Overnight travel will be less than 7 days a month and will depend on location of ESP enrolle.
  • Rental cars: As needed
  • Health and Safety Considerations: The ESP enrolle will enroll in Operational Leadrship (NPS safety course) if necessary and attend park-wide safety standdowns as appropriate. ESP enrolle will also participate in safety tailgate meetings as appropriate.
  • Required Safety Gear: Site visits will involve multiple-hour rough 4x4 drives, and short walks over uneven and unstable terrain. Summer high temperatures can reach 130 degrees.
