The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals aged 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise, and experience will truly be valued. The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Minimum of 30 years of experience in Civil Engineering. Minimum of 20 years of experience reviewing NRCS stream and watershed projects. Knowledge of NRCS stream restoration guidance such as NEH 654. Has developed and provided stream and watershed restoration training. OR MA/MS Degree in Civil Engineering

  • Valid State Driver's license
  • Current State Professional Engineering License
  • Expert in NRCS operations and national policies related to stream improvement projects.
  • Expert in theoretical and operational hydrologic science, fluvial geomorphology, and stream mechanics.
  • Expert in hydrologic and geologic theories, principles, and techniques related to stream improvement projects.
  • Expert in the development and review of stream stabilization and restoration designs, construction plans, and construction specifications to implement complex stream improvement projects under NRCS programs and policies.
  • Expert in communicating orally and in writing to prepare review comments and provide training to VA NRCS staff.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS PowerPoint
Duties:

Assists Virginia NRCS staff with stream restoration workload and training.

  • Site assessments and evaluations.   10%
  • Design assistance and review.    60%
  • Construction oversight.   10%
  • Training NRCS and partner staff.   20%

  • Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Virginia NRCS policy, Virginia permitting requirements.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasionally to satisfy the duties of the position.
  • Overnight travel: Approximately 2-4 days/month
  • Air travel anticipated: Approximately 2-4 days/month
  • Health and Safety Considerations: On-the-job training of NRCS and VA NRCS safety policies.
  • Required Safety Gear: Hard hat, eye protection, ear protection, steel-toed boots, gloves.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
