The NPS Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. NPS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 10 weeks. A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date.? Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave.? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPS direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission.? NPS ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in community planning and/or landscape architecture, project management and public engagement. OR MA/MS Degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning

  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation or community planning and design with experience at facilitation, partnership development, community outreach and engagement, project planning and management.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • common work tools for video conferencing, MS Teams, SharePoint, Outlook
Duties:

The enrollee serves as a specialist for parks in the region, specifically Chickasaw National Recreation Area, supporting ongoing efforts related to recovery from impacts from tornadoes that damaged and/or destroyed cultural resources, particularly built landscape features and vegetation. Enrollee will support, provide subject matter expertise, and execute work towards the documentation, assessment and treatment of cultural landscape features at CHIC and provide consultation services on an as needed basis for planning efforts related to long-term maintenance and management of significant cultural landscapes in the park.

  • The enrollee is a project team member providing technical planning and landscape design assistance and coordination on cooperative conservation and outdoor recreation planning projects working with government agencies, non-profit organizations, Tribes, and community groups. Projects could include but are not limited to: conceptual trail planning, river access, water trail development, park planning/design.   50%
  • The enrollee will assist in organizing and conducting planning/design workshops and events and facilitates meetings both in-person and virtually for audiences with a wide range of subject knowledge and experience. This will include developing and implementing methods for substantively involving the interested public in the planning process, with diverse engagement of community interests.   30%
  • This position will be responsible for preparing written and graphic materials and designs to communicate with public and professional audiences and may include writing, mapping, and graphics. The enrollee will communicate frequently with representatives of public agencies and non-profit organizations in the community and at local, state and national forums.   20%

  • Travel Requirements: Occasional local, non-overnight travel may be required
  • Required Safety Gear: If in the field at project sites, Personal Protective Equipment related to invasive plant and insects, UV and tick protection.
  • Physical requirements: Enrollee should be able to walk short distances of up to a mile along unimproved surfaces.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
