POSITION SUMMARY: The Paralegal assists in preparing, reviewing, and summarizing legal documents and contracts, along with handling complex matters assigned by attorneys. This role involves answering, screening, and returning phone calls and emails from opposing counsel, defendants, insurance companies, other City employees, and the public. Additional responsibilities include preparing and updating documents, maintaining files, managing court calendars, and performing tasks such as data entry, photocopying, and note-taking. The Paralegal may also attend and assist in court sessions, and could be required to travel for special court proceedings, meetings, or training. This position works under the direct supervision of the Litigation Attorney. 


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:  The starting hourly wage is $27.49 per hour and will increase to $28.59 per hour after 6 months of successful probation

MINIMUM REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING

• A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• A Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher learning accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through one of its regional accrediting agencies is required in law, legal studies, business, or a directly related discipline. 
      o Directly related full-time work experience, as determined by the Department Director, of six (6) or more years of full-time employment may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.  
• Two (2) years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretary is required. 
 
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND TRAINING
• Completion of a certified paralegal or legal assistant program, such as NALA-ACP certification or NFP-PACE certification is preferred.
 
MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft products to include Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
• Must be highly engaged in the department's goals, and be able to work cooperatively with City of Branson leadership in achieving those goals.
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service to the department's internal or external customers. 
• Must possess a high degree of integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
• Must possess strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal communication and relational skills, good organizational and project management skills, sound judgment, initiative, flexibility, and ability to be detail-oriented.  
• Must possess a valid driver's license and must be insurable under the City of Branson's motor vehicle coverage when operating a vehicle as a part of the position. 
• Tattoos, Scarification, Body Art, and Body Modifications must meet City of Branson Employee Appearance at Work policy.
• Must act safely and follow safety standards while at work. 
• Must not possess felony convictions at any time while employed by the City of Branson. 
• Must be able to pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol screenings.

WORK LOCATION:   City of Branson, Missouri; City Hall. This is an in office position requiring work to be performed onsite.
