Highway Maintenance On-Call Worker
Definition of Work
This is semi-skilled work in the operation of maintenance vehicles during Emergency Call-Outs.
Work involves operation of maintenance equipment, which previous experience of vehicles that require a commercial driver's license is necessary.
Examples of Work Performed
Operates trucks, tractors, loaders, and other equipment required in emergency situations, with special emphasis on snow removal.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
Knowledge of traffic regulations and the practices followed in the care and safe operation of trucks and construction equipment. Some knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely with and around mechanized equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions. Good physical condition and sufficient strength to do heavy lifting and carrying. Knowledge of principles of operation of motor equipment sufficient to detect defective operation. Ability to service a motor vehicle and to make minor running repairs. Ability to perform manual labor related to the operation of motorized equipment. Skill in operation of assigned equipment.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED. Have a current Kansas commercial driver's license.
