Kennel Assistant

Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral (BVER) is a specialty animal hospital located in Portland Oregon. Our hospital team includes highly skilled veterinarians specializing in Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Surgery, Ophthalmology and are supported by dedicated technicians and support staff.

Department: ICU

Position Reports to: ECC Support Staff Manager and Nursing Director

Primary Job Duties:

  • Maintaining cleanliness of ICU including treatment spaces, kennels and runs, exam rooms, and overall cleanliness of the hospital.
  • Stocking supplies within ICU as well as ensuring ICU backstock is adequately stocked.
  • Refilling items within ICU including but not limited to: alcohol, chlorhexidine, and hydrogen peroxide bottles, paper towels, disinfectant spray bottles.
  • Ensuring all bottles within ICU have appropriate OSHA labeling and that items in stock are not expired.
  • Preparing saline flush syringes and bandages.
  • Ensuring the ICU checklist is completed.
  • Cleaning crash and procedure wet tables daily.
  • Ensuring clean bedding is available for ICU patients and removing dirty laundry from ICU regularly through shift.
  • Emptying trash at beginning and end of shift.
  • Cleaning potty yard daily.
  • Assisting the veterinary team with patients as directed including, but not limited to: changing patient bedding, walking stable patients, offering food and water to patients per treatment sheet, restraining patients when directed by ICU staff.
  • Assist nursing staff with body after care.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Prior experience with animal handling
  • Highly responsible and reliable, with strong attention to detail
  • Polite and professional manner
  • Proactive and consistent in daily tasks
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Able to stand for long hours at a time and move, carry, and lift up-to 25 lbs.
