Summary
Under limited supervision, the mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repairs needs by inspecting, servicing, and repairing all necessary equipment to ensure it is in a safe working condition.

Must have trailer and heavy equipment repair skills usually gained through 3+ years of training and/or experience in a related field.

Must have the ability to operate vehicles and heavy equipment; valid driver’s license required.

Must have forklift certification or become certified within 90 days of employment.

Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.

Must have 1-year basic welding skills with steel or aluminum.

Able to learn and retain working knowledge of DOT regulations and Out of Service parameters for trailers and accessorial equipment.

Must be able to read installation manuals to assist with troubleshooting and installing non-routine parts.

Basic electrical troubleshooting skills and/or understanding of electrical theory.

Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training.

Must know proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.

Must possess personal hand tools and knowledge necessary to perform light maintenance functions.

Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.

Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.

Must be analytical with the ability to apply data.

Must be proficient in responding to internal and external customer situations, responding to customer needs as required.

Must be able to both think creatively and provide creative contributions to projects.

Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).

Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.

Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-
Perform preventative maintenance service on all assets by inspecting, servicing, and repairing equipment, following company preventative maintenance schedule to ensure it is in safe working condition.

Conduct required safety inspections as required by DOT to ensure it is in safe, working condition.

Inspect all tires, wheels, brakes, for safety concerns and documents recommended repairs.

Inspect, identify, and document any necessary repairs or replacements to all electrical components.

Inspect body, frame, suspensions, air tanks, and mounting braces/hangers for safety concerns and documents recommended repairs.

Perform repairs as directed by supervisor.

Monitor and maintain shop inventory to ensure that appropriate levels of supplies, materials, and parts are available.

Perform shop clean up and housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.

Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed and PPE is always used.

Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.
