Legal Nurse Consultant

We are seeking a full-time Legal Nurse Consultant in our St. Louis office. The Legal Nurse Consultant will use nursing and medical experience, in addition to knowledge of legal issues, to assist lawyers in preparing their legal cases relating to healthcare issues. LNCs will explain standards of medical treatment and medical procedures to attorneys and provide assistance with discovery requests, deposition questions and selection of expert witnesses.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Identify standards of care, causation and damage issues in healthcare related litigation or other medical-legal matters.
  • Assess issues of damages and causation relative to liability with the legal issue.
  • Research guidelines, standards and regulations related to the healthcare facts and issues of a case or claim. 
  • Provide pertinent medical literature reviews.
  • Review, summarize and analyze medical records and other pertinent healthcare and legal documents relative to allegations.  This includes screening documents for tampering and identifying missing documents.
  • Identify, locate, evaluate and confer with expert witnesses.
  • Interview witnesses and parties pertinent to health-care issues in collaboration with attorneys.
  • Attend, witness and report on an independent medical exams.
  • Draft legal documents under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Develop case strategies with attorneys.
  • Provide support during discovery, depositions, trial and other legal proceeding.
  • Contact and confer with vendors to develop demonstrative evidence or collect costs of healthcare services, supplies or equipment.
  • Utilizes a computer to access, input, and retrieve information.

Qualified Applicants Will Have:

  • 3-5 years of recent clinical experience in a hospital setting.  ICU and ER experience preferred.
  • Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC) through The American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.
  • Registered Nurse with Associates Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with strict attention to detail.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
