Local Driver - Indiana @ Customer Site - 2nd Shift

The Local Driver will be working under direction of the Shipping Manager and ATS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drives tractor to maneuver tractor-trailer combinations in accordance with all Company, OSHA, and DOT standards to make deliveries for customers.
    • Assists with loading/unloading of loads as requested and scheduled through management.
    • Conducts required safety inspection checks on trailers daily.
    • Checks and directs over the road drivers departing terminal for proper padding of securement and handing out BOL once approved.
  • Ensure all loads are in compliance with State DOT laws where load is traveling.
  • Makes sure ATS trailers and 2 ATS local trucks are road ready in a timely manner for loading.
  • Performs terminal maintenance by using motorized equipment and hand/power tools for the upkeep of the property.
    • Organizes, cleans, and secures storage yard, and work areas to be free of any hazards (to include snow removal).
    • Report any broken or missing equipment to ATS Road Service Group.
  • Operates all terminal equipment and vehicles safely to limit risk and liability to the employee, visitors, and company.
  • Maintains inventory of the yard daily.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

  • Must have valid Class A driver’s License; 3+ years of experience preferred.
  • No BAC's, DUI's, DWI's or license suspensions for moving violations in the past five (5) years
  • Must have experience in operating and ability to driver tractor/trailer combinations.
  • Must have the ability of backing into areas where there is limited room to maneuver.
  • Must have basic forklift operation knowledge. 
  • Must have current medical examiners certificate.
  • Must be able to use cell phone and fax machine.
  • Must be able to pass drug testing and meeting company’s minimum standard on safety and driving record.
  • Must have knowledge in the maintenance-related field to perform basic repairs to on trailers and to ensure all trailers inspections are current.
  • Must have a solid understanding of parts and inventory control.
  • Technical reading aptitude (i.e. electronic service bulletins; repair manuals) a plus.
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication, and teambuilding skills.
  • Demonstrated planning, organizing and prioritization skills.
  • Must possess high level of stress tolerance and ability to multi-task.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Required to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise and fumes and outside in cold or hot weather environments.
  • Required to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Required to frequently lift and/or move parts or supplies that weigh up to 100 pounds.
  • Required to work Saturdays / Holidays when needed.
  • Required to walk occasionally; to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls frequently; and to reach with hands and arms occasionally.
