Starting salary $58,260 plus a generous benefits package including  Benefits include pension, paid vacation and sick leave, holiday pay for 10 holidays, health insurance, dental insurance, paid uniforms, and paid training.

**Lateral transfers negotiable for officers already certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy **

Work involves responsibility for community protection of life and property, crime prevention, law enforcement and arrest, assigned patrol, traffic control and supervision, investigation, records and report processing, community outreach and other special police related assignments.

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent.  Some college preferred. 
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Sufficient physical ability to sit, stand, walk, run, lift heavy objects, and climb stairs carrying emergency equipment.
  • Must pass physical and drug-screen.
  • Ability to complete the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
  • Must possess valid Iowa driver’s license.
  • Must reside within 30 air miles of Muscatine City limit.
  • Must be U.S citizen

Test time and date to be determined, but will be held sometime in January. 

 

 




Hiring Process
For civil service positions, applications are screened for minimum qualifications. Applicants meeting the criteria will be invited to participate in the civil service testing process.

For non-civil service positions, the hiring process is established in a manner appropriate for the position. It is the City’s goal to successfully match the right candidates for the right positions.
