NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP).

Qualifications:Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in piroplasma related work. OR PhD Degree in Molecular biology, biochemistry, veterinary and related sciences. - Manipulation and analysis of piroplasma genomes, identifying novel targets for piroplasma vaccines and diagnostics.
- Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point
- Adobe, ArcGIS, email
Duties:Mentor new molecular biologist, technician and postdoc in the Unit on genetic and proteomic analysis of bovine babesiosis research project. Complete a collection trip for important Grindelia species wild relatives.
The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees. - Mentor new molecular biologist on genetic and proteomic analysis of bovine babesiosis research project. 60%
- Mentor new technician and postdoc on genetic and proteomic analysis of bovine babesiosis research project. 20%
- Support general research activities using molecular biology expertise. 20%
Other:- Training will be provided as necessary by the agency.
- Travel Requirements: travel to our animal farms in Pullman, WA and Moscow, ID, up to 10 miles for duty station may be required.
- Overnight travel: One trip, for one year.
- Air travel anticipated: One trip, for one year.
- Rental cars: One trip, for one year.
- Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
