Job Summary:
Amphenol is seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Director of Development Engineering to scale and lead the hardware development team within our rapidly expanding Cable Backplane Systems business unit. This senior role demands strategic oversight of all product and process development phases, from conceptualization to production, aligning technical goals with key business objectives. The Senior Director will nurture a culture of innovation and excellence across a global team, playing a pivotal role in sustaining our leadership in high-speed electrical connectors and cable assemblies for the Telecom/Datacom market, including leading edge AI servers and switches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the global interconnect product development team, encompassing ~150 engineers, and provide mentorship to ~6 direct reports.
- Drive the design and manufacturing of custom cable assembly products, ensuring compliance with quality, performance, and cost targets.
- Develop and implement strategic engineering plans aligned with corporate goals and market expectations.
- Collaborate across functional teams including marketing, sales, and sister high-speed businesses to ensure seamless product development.
- Oversee testing and validation of high-speed connector components and cable assemblies, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
- Foster relationships with system architects, hardware managers, lead engineers, and customers to support and cultivate partnerships.
- Analyze and optimize engineering processes using performance metrics to enhance efficacy.
- Lead innovative initiatives by staying informed of industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Manage and nurture vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective and timely production.
- Establish technical standards and best practices for customer cable development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field.
- 15+ years of hardware development and engineering leadership experience, with a proven track record in successful product launches.
- Demonstrated expertise in engineering management within a high growth, technology-centric environment.
- Strong leadership capabilities with experience nurturing and developing high-performing teams.
- Knowledge of hardware development processes, encompassing design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and experience with vendor management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate cross-departmental collaboration.
- Strategic thinking skills, capable of aligning technical initiatives with business objectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree or MBA is a plus.
- Experience in high technology or fast-paced industry environments.
- Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
