Reliability Test Engineer

Summary

The Reliability Test Engineer will work as a member of the Engineering Test Team to support component and system level testing of various products from concept through program release. This person would work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.

The position serves as an essential resource and subject matter expert in the continuous improvement and development of new products for commercial, military, and aerospace applications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on component and system level R&D, design validation, characterization, reliability, and durability testing.
  • Work directly with product managers and design engineers to support design validation plan development, and lead test planning activities (test scheduling, prioritization, specifications etc.)
  • Reviewing/troubleshooting of documentation related to manufacturing and testing of RF coaxial cable assemblies.
  • Develop test fixtures using CAD and work with in-house or external labs for fixture fabrication.
  • Conduct detailed inspections such as microwave measurements, torque checks, crack checks, parts inspections, etc. to identify and root cause failures.
  • Write necessary scripts to automate testing.
  • Conduct data acquisition and instrumentation of sensors such as load cells, strain gages, accelerometers etc.
  • Investigate test failures, post process test data and make detailed test reports for clear communication of results. Assist in identifying root cause of mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Make mechanical and electrical design calculations for tensile, torque, crush, vapor sealing, loss, phase, VSWR and other critical design attributes using established engineering practices.
  • Work closely with sales and applications engineering on new products and new markets by assisting with ideas and converting ideas into workable designs.
  • Research relevant component and technical resources in support of project objectives. Constantly seek to improve professional capabilities through study, reading, observation, and evaluation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or other relevant experience.
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Insatiable curiosity about physics, chemistry, metallurgy, materials etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard methods e.g. MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-202 etc.
  • Ability to organize design effort, keep orderly documentation and handle multiple tasks, assignments and projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, provide technical insight into problems and deliver effectiveness in completing job assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct work with very little supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with RF/microwave coaxial components helpful.
  • Up to 25% Travel.
