Dessert Holdings is looking for a Payroll Manager to join our team at corporate headquarters in St. Paul, MN. Reporting to the Sr. Manager of Payroll and Compensation, this individual will be responsible for payroll and HRIS operations across the United States and Canada. The primary focus will be on developing and executing payroll strategy, ensuring compliance with payroll regulations, and driving process improvements. Leading a small team of payroll professionals and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, the Payroll Manager will provide direction to optimize payroll operations using strong leadership skills, knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll practices, and the ability to navigate complex payroll landscapes in a fast-changing environment.
The typical hiring range for this role is $100,000 to $120,000 annually and is based on several factors such as education, work experience, skills, certifications, location, etc. In addition to pay, Dessert Holdings offers benefits such as a choice of comprehensive medical plans, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation and holidays, and retirement contribution to all eligible employees.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee operations of the payroll team, including staff selection, training, performance management, development, delivery of good customer service, and team and individual performance.
- Lead and process biweekly and weekly payroll in UKG for multiple U.S. and Canadian locations, ensuring proper setup and filing of various tax and other withholdings.
- Review all data including benefits and deductions, prepare and file union reports and payments, and prepare payroll reporting as required.
- Assist with special payroll calculations, final payments, on-demand payments, and other ad hoc requests.
- Support the 401(k) administrative processing and ensure integrations are working smoothly; facilitate and respond to audit requests, including 401(k) audits.
- Stay current with Payroll and HR regulations in the U.S. and Canada, as well as with the UKG platform, participating in user groups or networks as appropriate.
- Administer timely and accurate preparation of withholding and unemployment tax returns and correspond with any agencies to resolve issues.
- Set-up new tax areas and accounts in states and municipalities when necessary.
- Ensure W-2 and T4 records are complete and accurate.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 10 years of corporate payroll experience, including prior experience processing multi-state and Canadian payroll
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or other related field, and/or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred
- Prior experience with unions preferred
- Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, make timely decisions, and prioritize
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to collaborate with other functions including IT, Accounting, and field HR teams
- Ability to multitask and juggle multiple projects, adjusting priorities quickly as needed.
- Ability to travel to company sites, up to 25%.
