Job Description:
A Fiber Optic Production Technician is responsible for manufacturing, assembling, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic components and cables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assembling and splicing fiber optic cables
- Inspecting and testing fiber optic components for quality control
- Operating specialized equipment for fiber optic production
- Troubleshooting and repairing fiber optic systems
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics
- Ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience with fiber optic splicing and termination
- Knowledge of fiber optic testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, power meters)
- Manual dexterity and attention to detail
- Ability to work with small components and precision tools
- Technical training or certifications (e.g., FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician) are a plus
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED (Minimum requirement)
- Associate degree or Technical Certification (Preferred) in:
- Electronics
- Telecommunications
- Fiber Optics Technology
- Electrical Engineering or a related field
Certifications (Helpful but Not Always Required):
- Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) – Offered by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA)
- Fiber Optic Installer (FOI) – From Electronics Technicians Association (ETA)
