Mortgage Underwriting Coordinator I

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for handling communications and providing administrative support to EFCU's Mortgage Underwriting Department. Works with pertinent financial information, including loan applications, credit reports, disclosures, titles, and loan program information in order for the underwriting process to run efficiently and in a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides effective support for all phases of mortgage loan activities including:
    • Responsible for ordering in-house valuations, property reports, title reports, flood determinations through Appraisal Management Company (AMC).
    • Serve as primary liaison between EFCU Underwriting group and AMC.
    • Resolve valuation concerns with AMC including but not limited to reconsideration of value requests, insufficient value reports, data error findings. Communicate resolutions/outcomes to underwriters.
    • Track all Appraisal Management Company (AMC) related issues for compliance.
    • Tracks timely delivery of valuations and property/ title/ flood reports on a daily basis.
    • Resolve property report/flood/title error findings/concerns with property report solution provider. Communicate resolutions/ outcomes to underwriters.  
    • Responsible for assisting in tracking and returning rejected Midwest loan payments to member accounts.
    • Responsible for pulling down FH applications through LOS system and assigning to Mortgage Consultation staff and Underwriter maintaining proper rotation.
    • Responsible for processing internet HELOC and home equity applications through ELA and assign to appropriate branch MSO staff and underwriter maintaining proper rotation. 
    • Responsible for assigning/logging/tracking PHFA Pennvest applications to appropriate underwriter rotation.
    • Monitors and responds to lending inquiries when underwriting staff is unavailable.
    • Responsible for monitoring underwriters' TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) deadlines.
    • Prepares estimated and final mortgage disclosures for mailing through either USPS and email via Citrix system for e-signature documents. Tracks the return of these disclosures to EFCU. Downloads fully executed e-documents for underwriter review.
    • Reviews information for completeness and accuracy. Clarifies missing or questionable information and follows up with underwriting staff for outstanding documents or verifications. Ensures all items necessary are in loan files and performs required validations to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
    • Assist in assembling completed loan packages after closing and funding for quality control audit and scanning.
    • Responsible for uploading new in-house mortgage documentation to Midwest within 24 hours of loan funding.
    • Responsible for monitoring new Midwest loan setup for in-house mortgages.
    • Responsible for creating Excel spreadsheets for monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
    • Orders mortgage appreciation gifts for First Heritage closings.
    • Assist underwriters in weekly review of inactive applications.  Request Mortgage Loan Officers to establish member contact to ensure follow through and update status.
    • Responsible for address change wizard notifications for file maintenance.
    • Assist in producing a weekly local bank rate comparison sheet for CLO and VP of Mortgage Lending.
  • Establishes and maintains professional business relationships with credit union staff and mortgage professionals.
    • Follows up with requests and issues promptly and courteously. Answers credit union staff mortgage loan questions regarding applications in process of approval.
    • Notifies underwriting and branch MSO staff of additional information required in a timely manner.
    • Maintains and conveys the credit union's professional reputation
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Credit Union policies and procedures, including compliance with federal laws and regulations as set forth by the NCUA and other regulatory agencies.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Must progress towards NMLS registration/certification and training.
  • Attend training courses, conferences and seminars as necessary.
  • Continuing education to advance within the Underwriting department is encouraged.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Requires professional, well-developed interpersonal skills for communicating with members, co-workers and other individuals involved in the lending process.
  • Requires a highly motivated and organized individual with ability to prioritize and perform constantly changing multiple tasks in a high paced team environment.
  • A team player is required due to the constant interaction with staff and members and an ever-changing lending environment. Requires thorough knowledge of the Credit Union's policies, procedures, products and services regarding the lending function.
  • Requires knowledge of laws and regulations governing lending.
  • Requires completion of high school education.
  • One year of experience with EFCU is preferred. Must be extremely proficient with both Symitar and Synapsys.
  • Must meet financial responsibility, character and general fitness of the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act (S.A.F.E. Act).
  • Requires intermediate mathematical skills (calculations and concepts involving decimals, fractions, percentages, averages, etc.).
  • Requires PC proficiency and knowledge of Office Suite.
